The level XVII symbol is called the Great Temple. It aims to act as a door or opening to the heavenly temple. The temple represents a place of pure spiritual consciousness.

No prerequisite — if you feel ready, you may take it.
The symbol of this level is Dai Ji — the Great Temple. It is written in Japanese kanji and represents its own name. The symbol was taught to Roberta Rianad by her spiritual guides.
Its link to the level before is put like this: where Reiki 16 works to discern what is coming, Reiki 17 helps you reach the heavenly temple and receive what is held there. The temple stands here for the place of pure spiritual consciousness.
The symbol acts as a door opening onto that temple. The handbook dwells at length on the image of the door in scripture: the door marked with blood at the exodus from Egypt, the entrance of the tent of meeting, the veil separating the holy place from the holy of holies — and the tearing of that veil at the death of Jesus, the lifting of the separation between God and the human being.
With the attunement you learn this level's meditation. The handbook contains the drawing of the symbol, the meditation, the attunement ritual and the symbol codes — so you can pass this level on.

Prerequisite
You are expected to have been working actively as a Reiki Master for at least six months, and the levels are taken in sequence. This is a guideline rather than a gate — it is what works for most people.
Some students arrive ready by another route, through years of their own practice, even without having taken these particular systems. If you feel ready, you may go ahead; the decision is yours.
One thing said plainly: an attunement opens as far as the ground beneath it allows. If that ground is not settled yet, the level is still given, but you may not see the response you hoped for straight away. That is not a failure, only timing — a level taken early usually waits for you and settles into place once you are ready.

The level IX symbol is called The Great Happiness which aims to assist you in finding true happiness in life. Happiness means to love and accept yourself and others unconditionally.
