The level XVIII symbol is called the Great Wisdom. It aims to assist you in obtaining inner-based wisdom and knowledge. The symbol can be used to assist you in increasing the learnings and knowledge that you may be able to gain from the Great Temple in level XVII.

Prerequisite
No prerequisite — if you feel ready, you may take it.
The symbol of this level is Dai Tetsu — Great Wisdom. It is written in Japanese kanji and represents its own name. The symbol was taught to Roberta Rianad by her spiritual guides.
The sequence is set out like this: in Reiki 17 you went to the temple to learn the divine will; in Reiki 18 you learn how wisdom is acquired.
What the handbook separates is wisdom from knowledge. Wisdom is something other than accumulated knowledge; it is not stored, not programmed. It is gained by letting go and trusting the flow completely. Buddhism calls it Sunyata and Hinduism Vidya — the place where duality dissolves, thought comes to rest, and only being here now remains.
The paradox is stated plainly: when you set knowing aside, you reach the whole of knowledge — intuition is the door onto all of it. Augustine's definition arrives at the same place: wisdom is the mind held in balance, governed by neither excess nor want.

Prerequisite
You are expected to have been working actively as a Reiki Master for at least six months, and the levels are taken in sequence. This is a guideline rather than a gate — it is what works for most people.
Some students arrive ready by another route, through years of their own practice, even without having taken these particular systems. If you feel ready, you may go ahead; the decision is yours.
One thing said plainly: an attunement opens as far as the ground beneath it allows. If that ground is not settled yet, the level is still given, but you may not see the response you hoped for straight away. That is not a failure, only timing — a level taken early usually waits for you and settles into place once you are ready.
